Make Goal Setting FUN!

goal setting

For some, it’s that dreaded time of year to begin thinking about the new year and the goals you want to accomplish. For me, it’s my favorite thing to do!

I love the idea of setting ambitious goals because it pushes me to be my best! I do admit that the process of setting goals doesn’t have quite the flare that achieving them does, so here are a few fun ways I have used to set my goals!

  1. Pretend you just came into a large sum of money! What things in your life would change? If you could do more with your goals by having more money, what would you do?
  2. If money isn’t a big motivator, then imagine there was nothing and no-one to stop you! Write down 2 or 3 things you would do if you had no obstacles.
  3. Plan your retirement party in your head! You have 2 years before you retire, what is left to fulfill your dreams?

Then grab some old magazines and get to clipping!

What has always worked for me is seeing the goal everyday! And by seeing I mean to literally have a goal poster made up with all the clippings from those old mags that visually show what you set out to do.

When I was in my 20’s, my goal was to own a Lexus. Growing up the way I did, most people thought I was crazy. I could not only see myself, but I could feel myself in the car. I had a poster made up that embodied this goal from a picture of the actual car with all the bells and whistles to the price tag! I looked at it everyday, and I am proud to say I got my dream car.

Goals are simple. The hard part is that it’s up to you to get them. Crisis occurs, procrastination, no support, etc. Don’t get off track. Set challenging but reasonable ones. Set goals that motivate you. Set goals that empower you. Simply put, just set them, have a visual way to explore them, and they will come to pass over time if you stay the course.
