Many of us spend time multi-tasking resulting in the feeling of spreading ourselves thin and then feel frustrated because “there isn’t enough time in the day.” I prefer to look at it as focus. I am focused to achieve my professional goals, focused to be a good parent and wife and also focused to be able to do them effectively without guilt.
A lot of my friends and family say I don’t know you do it or where do you find the time? You are always there for me and respond so fast, how do you do that?!?!
For me, it’s always been about being organized and dedicated to the commitments I say “yes” to. Do I say no? Not often, but I will.
Do I sometimes wish I had more time to just relax? Yes, of course, but I always strive to have a good attitude and outlook on things. I truly think this is why I achieve what I set out to do rather than bask in the negativity and stress of being worked or “spread too thin” as one might say.
The One Thing a book written by Gary Keller is a great read and something that may help you find some answers to those swirling questions in your mind. I have personally taught in my leadership roles the “touch it once” procedure. It’s great if you can do it, but most people go from one duty to the next without accomplishing what they set out to do. This one practice if put to work can increase productivity AND your attitude! I hope you will take the recommendation of reading the book and find not only are you less frustrated but more focused!
One day I will slow down, but not today!
